Hopefully the box office success of both these movies sent a message to studios that there's an adult audience ready to fork over the bucks to see a good R-rated comedy. Neither film held back on the jokes and both movies were all the better for not having to bow to the demands of a PG-13 rating.
Andy Serkis in "King Kong"
After Serkis' outstanding performance as Gollum in "Lord of the Rings" and with the job he did bringing a 25' ape alive in Peter Jackson's "King Kong," the talented actor deserves special recognition. Without his work in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and as Kong, Jackson's films would have suffered greatly.
"Star Wars Goes Out on a High Note
George Lucas redeemed himself with the final installment of the "Star Wars" saga, "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith." Lucas sewed up a lot of loose ends while delivering a film "Star Wars" aficionados and casual viewers could get behind.
George Clooney Takes a Stand
He may annoy some but at least he didn't back down. Clooney's "Good Night, and Good Luck" and "Syriana" address key issues revelant to today's America. Clooney's one celeb who puts his A-level star status to good use.
Sammy Davis Jr Jr in "Everything is Illuminated"
I dare you to watch Liev Schreiber's movie and forget Sammy Davis Jr Jr. This dog's performance easily was up to par with his human co-stars. If the Academy handed out Best Animal awards, he'd take home the Oscar paws down.
