2008 Palm Springs Film Festival Honors 'Into the Wild' and 'Hairspray'

Even inclement weather couldn't put a damper on the 2008 Palm Springs International Film Festival Gala. The red carpet and awards show were star-studded affairs, with A-listers making the trek from Los Angeles to pick up or help present awards to this year's honorees.

2008 Winners:

Sean Penn (Into the Wild) - Director of the Year

Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood) - Desert Palm Achievement Award

Halle Berry (Things We Lost in the Fire) - Desert Palm Achievement Award

Jerry Weintraub (Ocean's Thirteen) - SAG Foundation Patron of the Arts Award

Marion Cotillard (La vie en Rose) - Breakthrough Performance Award

Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild) - Rising Star Award

Nikki Blonsky (Hairspray) - Rising Star Award

Joe Wright (Atonement) - Sonny Bono Visionary Award

James Newton Howard (Charlie Wilson's War, The Great Debaters) - Frederick Loewe Award for Film Composing

Juno - Chairman's Vanguard Award

Hairspray - Ensemble Performance Award
